THE WET WEATHER HITS

Sodden pitches accounted for all but six Thurlow Nunn League matches on Saturday.

Once again Hadleigh United managed to get their game played and after beating CRC 3-1 opened up an 18 point gap at the top of the Premier Division. Fifth placed Brightlingsea Regent were the other winners in the top half of the table, beating third placed Haverhill Rovers 4-1 at North Road. Regent are a massive 22 points behind Hadleigh but do have no less than 7 games in hand on the leaders.

In the only game played in the First Division Ipswich Wanderers beat Dereham Town Reserves 1-0, the goal being scored by Jack Severy in the 79th minute. The three points move Wanderers up four places to fourth in the table.

2013-14 IN THE LEAGUE SO FAR

Hadleigh United, Felixstowe & Walton United, Whitton United and Great Yarmouth Town all remain unbeaten at home.

Thetford Town and Ely City have yet to win at home with Ely gaining their first home point on Saturday (against Thetford!)

Woodbridge Town have yet to win away from home.

Long Melford and Needham Market Reserves have no draws.

OLLY MURS AND THE EASTERN COUNTIES LEAGUE

Some may not know that singer/songwriter and TV Presenter Olly Murs had a short but successful spell with Witham Town in the Reserve League.

He was Witham’s leading goalscorer in 2006-07 scoring 12 times in 13 games, including two for the side that beat Haverhill Rovers 3-0 in the Reserve Teams Cup Final at Hadleigh. Olly played five more games in 2007-08, scoring five more goals.
